1.2M doses of COVID vaccine arrived in Indonesia

JAKARTA – As many as 1.2 million doses of vaccine has arrived in Indonesia on Sunday night, 6 December 2020. Another 1.8 million doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in Bali early next year.

The Sinovac-made vaccine was brought from Beijing, China, on Garuda Indonesia charter flight, a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft. As arrived in Soekarno Hatta Airport, the vaccine that was store jn envirotainer would be taken to Garuda warhouse for charging. Later on, it would be taken to Bio Farma in Bandung, West Java.

“Today, the government have accepted 1.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. This is Sinovac-made vaccine that have been clinically tested in Bandung since August,” President Joko Widodo said in a statement.

Indonesian government have also attempted to get another 1.8 million doses of vaccine in January 2021.

Beside vaccine, also this month, the government will also get 15 million doses of raw material of vaccine this month. In January, another 30 million raw material of vaccine would also be sent to be processed by Bio Farma , a government owned company who would produce the vaccine.

“We are very grateful, thanks God, the vaccine is now available. It means that we could curb the spread of COVID-19,” Joko Widodo said.

“However, to start (to distribute) the vaccine, need some steps from the Food and Drugs Control Agency,” The President said.

Joko Widodo said that the vaccine should be go through some scientific procedure properly before it is distributed, to guarantee the health and save of people and making sure the effectiveness. The scientific consideration would decided when the vaccination would be conducted. (kanalbali/RSL)
