Australia’s Consul-General Attended the Closing Ceremony of ‘I Can Speak English’ Program for People with Disability in Bali

DENPASAR, kanalbali.id – Australia’s Consul-General in Bali, Ms Jo Stevens, attended the closing event of the ‘I Can Speak English’ program in Denpasar, Bali.

The program was funded by the Australia Indonesia Institute and Inspirasia Foundation and was implemented by DNetwork in collaboration with the Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF) Bali, and the Annika Linden Centre.

During the ‘I Can Speak English’ program, participants with disability learned English to lift their professional skills. Candidates underwent a selection process to determine their level of English proficiency and their commitment to participate in the program.

Nineteen participants with disability from Bali were selected to take part in 40 hours of English language training at IALF and 8 hours of speaking practice through ‘potluck’ sessions. During these sessions, participants were introduced to popular Australian snacks and gained insights into Australia from two Australian guests and two Australia Awards alumni.

In her remarks, Consul-General Jo Stevens said, “By improving English language skills of the participants, this program seeks to create an inclusive community and increase workforce participation by people with disability. In doing so, it helps to build a society in which people with disability can participate as equal members and have greater financial independence.”

The closing ceremony was also attended by Ms Denise Finney, CEO of IALF, Ms Caroline Bentley, Manager of IALF Bali, and Australian alumnus and Project Manager at DNetwork, Mr Wisnu Saputra.
