Two foreign tourist killed in tree collapse at Bali Monkey Forest

UBUD, kanalbali.id – At least two foreign tourist have been killed in a tree collapse in Monkey Forest Sanctuary area in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, on Tuesday. One other foreign tourist have suffered severe injuries.

Gianyar Police explained the identities of two the victim who died after being hit by a fallen tree in the Monkey Forest tourist area, in Padangtegal Village, Ubud Village, Gianyar, Bali, on Tuesday (10/12).

The two foreign nationals (WNA) who died after being hit by a tree were two women named Funny Justine Christine (32) from France and Kim Hyoeun (42) from South Korea. Meanwhile, another South Korean woman Lee Sunni (43) suffered injuries.

“Two people died, one person was injured,” said Gianyar Police spokesperson, I Nyoman Tantra said.

A witness I Nyoman Lilir told police that he was in the tourist area to do a control when a strong wind and heavy rain suddenly occured.

“Not too long after, the sound of a tree falling was heard. and after checking it some tree growing next to the Prajapati Temple, in the Ubud Monkey Forest tourist area, had collapsed or fallen towards the east.

“At that time there were many tourists visiting and seeing this, then visitors or tourists ran to save themselves, but there were several tourists who were hit by the tree,” he added.

The witness I Nyoman Lilir with some staff and tourist tried to help the victim who was hit by the tree. “The victims were immediately rushed to the Kenak Medical Ubud Hospital by ambulance. Several other tourists with minor injuries were treated at the Ubud Monkey Forest tourist clinic.

The witness had also reported the incident to the Ubud Police by phone.

“At 00.50 pm Bali time, the Ubud Police carried out an evaluation and cleaning of the fallen tree,” he said. (kanalbali/KAD)
