
BADUNG – Dozens of LPG gas cylinders were stolen from restaurants that were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Badung and Denpasar Regencies, Bali. Tragically, the perpetrators were young and even involved children.
Those who arrested by the Kuta Police, Bali included the initials MZ (20), IKDS (14), EDWP (16), and HD (18). “The money from stealing is used for supplying daily needs,” said Head of Criminal Investigation of Kuta Iptu Made Putra Yudistira, Thursday (3/12/20).
This theft incident happened on Tuesday (21/11/20) at Uang-Uang Restaurant located on Setiabudi Street No 1 Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali. Around at 7.15 a.m, the victim named Liu Kok Pin from Medan, North Sumatra, was contacted by an employee named Dian Fajar because the gas cylinder was missing. Formerly, the gas cylinder was in front of the restaurant and surrounded by concrete bulkhead. About four gas cylinders were missing, each weighing 50 kg, totaling Rp. 6,800,000. “Furthermore, it is reported to the Kuta Police for further handling,” he added.
Through this report, the police immediately conducted an investigation and checked CCTV around the scene. From the CCTV footage, it was seen that there was a dark pick-up car around 11:30 p.m. and came to the scene and saw someone getting out of the pickup.
Based on that information, the police conducted a regional patrol to find the pickup car that was recorded by CCTV. Then, on Tuesday (1/12/20) at around 02.30 a.m when the police were monitoring at the Double Six Simpang Seminyak, Kuta, Badung, they saw the pickup truck passing to the North. The stalking was carried out untul Petitenget Street, North Kuta, Badung. The police stopped the car and then conducted an inspection.

From the inspection, there were found one big scissor and all the perpetrators. The perpetrators were secured and interrogated. They admitted that they were going to commit theft of gas cylinders. “Previously, they had stolen 50 kg gas cylinders in several places, such as in the Canggu and Kuta areas. Furthermore, they were secured to the Kuta Police,” he said.
These thiefts are targeted restaurants that were closed due to COVID-19 pandemic and stole LPG gas. The coordinator, MZ, confess that has stealing 50 kg gas cylinders using a black pickup truck rented from a friend for Rp. 250,000 per day. Those gas cylinders gonna be sell to a man called Bapak Yono. Then, the other thief IKDS were also joined to stealing, were given a payment Rp.100.000/tube that was obtained after being sold.
IKDS were in charge to keep an eye on their surrounding from the car while MZ and EDWP stealed the 50 kg gas cylinders. Meanwhile, EDWP confess that he in charge as padlock cutter using large black iron scissor. HD also confessed to keep an eye to their surrounding and helping to lift the gas cylinders into pickup car.
For evidence, the police secured one large black iron scissors, one unit of Suzuki pickup DK-8005-DZ, and 31 tubs of 50 kg’s gas cylinder. “The four perpetrators admitted to having stolen 50 kg gas cylinders 7 times in Kuta, 5 times in the Canggu area, North Kuta, 3 times in South Denpasar, with a total of about 31 gas cylinders measuring 50 kg,” said Iptu Yudistira.
